Children’s Rights-Prof. Laura Lundy- PDA Conference

PDA welcomes Prof. Laura Lundy to address delegates on Thursday 15th November at 11:30am when she will discuss the topic of Children’s Rights. Laura is Co-Director of the Centre for Children’s Rights and a Professor in the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work at Queen’s University, Belfast. She is co-Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Children’s Rights.  Her expertise is in children’s right to participate in decision-making and education rights.  Her 2007 paper, “’Voice’ is not enough” is one of the most highly cited academic papers on children’s rights and the model of children’s participation it proposes (based on four key concepts – Space, Voice, Audience and Influence) is used extensively in scholarship and practice. The ‘Lundy model’ of child participation is core to the Irish National Children’s Participation Strategy (2015) and has been adopted by international organisations such as the European Commission and global NGOs such as World Vision.  Full Conference Schedule

LEARNERS’ VOICE – Dr. Paula Flynn

Paula FlynnHear Dr. Paula Flynn articulate her views on developing learners’ voice at PDA conference, Friday 16th at 11:30. Paula ​was​ the principal investigator on a national study funded by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) ​between 2014 and 2017, ​which involve​d​ a consultative process with students at post-primary level in the development of opportunities for curricular development. A significant objective of this study ​was​ to determine how to embed a culture of listening and a sustainable response to student voices both in schools and education discourse nationally. Enhancing Professionality through Teacher Leadership

David Frost will address delegates on Friday 16th at 10:00. His focus will be on ‘Enhancing Professionality through Teacher Leadership’. Over 15 years ago, David founded the Herts Cam Network which provides programmes for teachers and schools in England and, through its International Teacher Leadership initiative,works with partners to establish teacher leadership programmes in other countries. Betty McLaughlin– Well Being for Leaders at PDA Conference

Native of County Limerick, Guidance Counsellor, Author and publisher of many articles on Personal , Educational and Vocational  Guidance Counselling, Mental Health and Wellbeing , Parent, and  Educationalist. Regular contributor to National and Local TV and Radio on topical educational and vocational issues.

Mary Nihill will be at PDA Annual Conference

Mary was appointed Principal in St Paul’s Secondary School Oughterard Galway in 1993. In 2005 she was seconded as Assistant National Coordination to the Leadership Development for Schools (LDS) team and coordinated programmes such as Misneach-the programme for newly appointed Principals and Forbairt –a development programme for established Principals and Deputy Principals. She is currently seconded as National Director of The Centre for School Leadership from her role as Principal of Calasanctius College Oranmore Galway where she has been Principal since 2010.  Mary   was elected as President of The National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals in October 2014.

Meet Anthony Kilcoyne at Conference 2018

Anthony is a post-primary teacher on secondment from Archbishop McHale College, Tuam and has being seconded to the PDST since 2011. As an advisor with the PDST, Anthony supported schools in focusing on the improvement of teaching and learning across the curriculum, through literacy and numeracy, school self-evaluation, programme, DEIS and technology integration supports. In 2013 Anthony was appointed to the role of Team Leader for PDST School Leadership where he coordinated professional development opportunities for current and aspiring school leaders, to include school self-evaluation. In October 2017 he was appointed to the position of Deputy Director for digital technologies.
